In last weeks Munising News “memories” column, thirty-five years ago AuTrain Township was celebrating its new township hall with a soup dinner. It took a lot of work from citizens for this new hall to become a reality; there are some great memories indeed. AuTrain Township’s population has grown and now stretches out with three areas of village like nature. However I have found recently, that something about AuTrain hasn’t changed. Better said, something about Alger County hasn’t changed. There are a lot of fantastic caring people living here. Some just moved here, some are descendants from many generations of pioneers. I recognized this while visiting the area thirty-five years ago. I was impressed with the beauty of both the environment and the people, impressed enough to pull up stakes and move here in 1976.
Over the last few weeks I have been trying to organize a “Citizen Reach” event at the AuTrain Township Hall. Many organizations, nine in all, have been gracious enough to be there Monday Feb 16 from 9:30 till around noonish. I believe the entire spectrum of our community will benefit. Whether you are a teen, senior citizen, artist, vet, disabled, extremely active or somewhere in between; something will be there for you. What impressed me was how so many citizens have willingly helped, thank you, thank you so very much.
If you are reading this, you are invited, bring a friend. There will be homemade goodies and coffee. Bring curiosity, a smile, some of your best cookies, and a good story. I guarantee you will leave knowing more about some great things available to you, and our community will also learn from your wisdom. It’s all good, make it better by being there.
